What Is Education for Ministry (EfM)?

EfM is a unique certificate program of experiential theological education for laity under the direction of The School of Theology. Since its founding in 1975, this international program has assisted more than 30,000 students in discovering how to respond to the call of Christian service. EfM helps students encounter the breadth and depth of the Christian tradition and bring it into conversation with their experiences of the world as they study, worship, and engage in theological reflection together.

An EfM group of six to 12 students with a trained mentor meet weekly for two and a half to three hours over the course of a nine-month academic year. Some groups meet in traditional face-to-face small groups in a local parish, others meet entirely online and may include participants in many different places. The program takes four years to complete and is broken up into these courses of study:

  • Year One: The Hebrew Bible
  • Year Two: The New Testament
  • Year Three: Church History
  • Year Four: Theology, Ethics, Interfaith Encounter

Women’s Bible Study

The Women’s Bible Study is a group of women interested in studying the Bible through an interactive discussion. On Thursday, September 11, 2014, at 10:00 am, the group will begin a Beth Moore study titled, “Children of the Day”, 1st and 2nd Thessalonians.. The Holy Spirit shines bright through you. Beth Moore’s description of the study: “Grocery shopping, strolling through a park, grabbing coffee—you are never without His light. The New Testament believers carried the Spirit of God as they walked along the shores of Thessalonica, just as you carry that light today. Shine brightly as you study 1 & 2 Thessalonians with Beth Moore in this 9-session study. “You are all children of the light and children of the day.” 1 Thessalonians 5:5. “ The leadership will be shared by the members. A workbook is used for homework each week. Those interested in joining this study should call the church office, 736-0866.
