EFM-Education for Ministry.
What Is EfM?
Education for Ministry is a continuing education program offered locally at St. David’s and administered by the Beecken Center of the School of Theology of the University of the South in Sewanee, Tennessee.
This four-year seminar-based program allows a group of 6-12 students and 1-2 certified “mentors” to meet for 36-weeks each year, exploring specific year-level content and practicing various theological reflection exercises. The materials are designed to help lay people grow in
their faith-based knowledge and reflection skills and to develop confidence in pursuing lay ministries that fit their understanding, gifts, and talents. MaryAnne Brock and Fr. Scotty must attend trainings at least every 18 months to maintain certification with the Beecken Center in
order to continue offering the program here at St. David’s.
Below are the year-level study contents of this four-year program:
- Year One - Old Testament
- Year Two - New Testament
- Year Three - Church History
- Year Four - Theology
The St. David’s group meets in the Conference Room 7-9 p.m. each Wednesday night from September through May (beginning on the Wednesday after Labor Day and ending on the Wednesday before Memorial Day). We anticipate openings for 5 additional students for the 2019-2020 year. Students make a commitment to the program for only one year at a time. Interested parishioners should contact MaryAnne Brock for more information and registration materials.
