Serving in Worship

Many people work together to prepare for Sunday and weekday worship at St. David’s. The groups described here provide invaluable support for the many aspects of worship. If you are interested in any of these opportunities, please complete our Ministries Opportunities Form.

Acolytes - Acolytes assist the Celebrant during worship. Acolytes lead processions and take responsibility for lighting and extinguishing candles. Acolytes assist the priest with tasks before, during and after the worship service. The crucifer carries the cross and assists the priest during the gospel reading. Torchbearers light the candles before the service, carry the torches to light the way for the cross, and assist the priest with communion. Adults and youth (from age 8) may join the acolyte ministry. Assignments are made on a rotating basis. For more information and/or to volunteer, please contact This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..

In addition to setting up for each service, they are responsible for polishing silver and brass, mending and laundering linens, maintaining supplies of wine, wafers, candles and cleansing materials. Altar Guild members are also responsible for setting up the altar for funerals, weddings, ordinations, and other special services.

Choir - The Choir sings for the main Sunday services. Those in the Choir offer their time and talent to support and enrich our liturgical life. For more information and/or to join the choir, contact This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..

Eucharistic Ministers - Eucharistic Ministers administer the chalice at the celebration of the Holy Eucharist on Sundays. They also serve occasionally for weddings, funerals and other services. Eucharistic Ministers are licensed by the Bishop following participation in training sessions. Contact:

Greeters - Greeters extend a friendly welcome to parishioners and visitors on Sunday mornings to make sure they are invited to coffee hour after the service and to assist them if they need information about our parish. Lectors - Lectors participate in Sunday worship services by reading the lessons appointed for that day and reading intercessory prayers. They also read lessons for special services. Being a lector requires skill and confidence in reading in public. Training is required.

Ushers - Ushers extend a friendly welcome to parishioners and visitors at Sunday services. They hand out service bulletins, assist visitors, pass alms basins and assist the congregation during communion. Ushers serve in teams and are also called on to serve at funerals and special services.
